"Which size should we choose?" is probably the second most common question I get from couples, right after the text 😊
It sounds simple, but the size of your ketubah affects how it looks at the chuppah, how much space your text has, and how it will feel on your wall for the next 50 years. Here is how I help couples decide.
Most ketubahs are somewhere between about 12 and 22 inches on each side. At Ketubahome, these are the sizes you'll see most often:
Each design page shows the exact sizes available for that ketubah.
Most couples hang their ketubah in the living room, the hallway, or above the bed. Stand where you imagine it and look at the wall. Over a sofa or a dresser, a larger size (20 inches and up) usually looks balanced. In a narrow hallway or next to a doorway, a smaller ketubah can feel more elegant.
A little trick: cut a piece of paper or cardboard to the size you're considering and tape it on the wall for a day. You will know very quickly 😉
This one is important. A traditional Aramaic text with an English translation takes much more space than a short egalitarian or English-only text. If you want both Hebrew (or Aramaic) and English, I usually recommend a medium or large size, so the letters stay comfortable to read.
Not sure which text you'll choose yet? You can read all of them on my ketubah text options page.
The frame and mat add to the final size on your wall, usually a few inches on each side. So a 16×16 ketubah can easily become 20×20 or more once it's framed. Keep this in mind when you measure your wall.
My ketubahs ship flat and unframed, so you can choose a frame that fits your home after the wedding.
Your ketubah will be signed at the wedding, usually by two witnesses, and often by the couple and the rabbi or officiant too. Every design leaves room for the signatures, but if you have a long text and many signatures, a bigger size gives everything room to breathe.
Yes, larger sizes cost a bit more because of paper, printing and cutting. I explain all the price factors in my guide: How much does a ketubah cost?
Send me a photo of the wall where you plan to hang it, and tell me which text you're thinking about. I'll happily recommend a size 🤍
